Girlguiding Menstruation Matters Lessons

If you're a Girlguiding leader in Sheffield and would like us to run our free educational Menstruation Matters class at your local unit please get in touch!

We teach pre-adolescent and adolescent girls about the physiology behind menstruation, dispel common menstrual myths and teach them about period poverty to end the taboo

We help the girls decorate shoe boxes and package them with our menstrual products, a chocolate bar and a note for the women receiving their kindness to earn their End Period Poverty badges!

We’re committed to reducing plastic waste

Reusable Pad Sewing Workshops

We teach festival-goers how to sew reusable pads using our vintage hand-cranked sewing machines in our beautiful rainbow bell tent! Our workshops are aimed at all abilities and teach you not only how to sew yourself a beautiful washable pad but also how to make the transition as easy as possible!

We teach university student's how to sew reusable menstrual pads to encourage environmentally friendly ways of living and ease the transition into plastic-free-periods. We usually have at least one workshop per term so look out on Facebook for our next one!

zero waste shops

We're hoping to expand our trade into local Zero Waste shops soon - remember each pad sold is one donated!

How can i donate money ?

Click here to donate online! Remember to click to include gift aid so we can get 25% back off the government 🙂

how can i find out about your events?

Currently, due to Covid-19, we are not running in-person events. However, keep an eye out on social media for our virtual events like documentary film screenings and our ‘Go With The Flow’ sporting challenges!

where can i donate period products?

We have product collection points based at the University of Sheffield, UK:

– The University of Sheffield medical school reception has two collection points; for single or packeted donations.

During the Covid-19 pandemic these collection points have been intermitently closed and instead if you contact us we can collect donations at a social distance.

How can our local girlguides get involved?

Using a lesson plan created by Water Aid and Girl Guiding UK, we learn about Period Poverty while creating “love shoe box” care packages of sanitary products for donation. This enables the girls to earn their End Period Poverty badges and break down the social stigma surrounding menstruation.

How can i volunteer?

Every year we hold an annual general meeting (AGM) to appoint a board of trustees and advisors for the charity. Stay tuned to find out when our next AGM is taking place.

We also accept applications from individuals who wish to volunteer their time to fundraise and support MM as part of the fundraising committee.

Please look out for our fundraising events!

How can i fundraise?

Considering doing a sponsored walk, bake sale or run? Or maybe just raising some money for us in your local community? We’d love for you to fundraise for MM! If you want more information on how to personally fundraise for us, drop us an email at or message us on Facebook.
